Toutefois, il existe des situations dans lesquelles la pratique sportive peut constituer un facteur de vulnérabilité sur le plan sanitaire. Etablir ce lien entre sport et pathologie est aisé pour toute la sphère somatique. Mais cela est beaucoup moins évident pour la sphère psychopathologique où nous nous heurtons à une notion idéologique du sport, source d'équilibre et de santé, au détriment des souffrances individuelles. Cette croyance solidement ancrée dans les imaginations conduit souvent le milieu sportif voire sanitaire à ne pas détecter ni prendre en charge ce type de difficultés. Sur le terrain, la demande et l'offre de soins sont quasi inexistantes. Le sportif, symbole d'équilibre et de santé, peut rencontrer au cours de sa carrière et après des difficultés psychologiques.
L'initiative de cette journée est née d'une démarche commune d'équipes de terrain confrontées à cette problématique et souhaitant contribuer à l'émergence du champ de la psychopathologie du sport en France.
